CYBERAFFIRM / INSIGHTS

Know the questions before the pressure is real.

Practical cyber insurance reading for the person responsible for the business.

01

Map your dependencies

Write down how you take payments, accept orders, manage bookings, pay employees and communicate with customers. Note the outside providers involved. Bring that map to a coverage discussion.

02

Separate the cause from the consequence

A cyberattack, accidental system failure and provider outage can have similar business effects. Policies can treat those causes differently. Ask about the event definition before focusing on the loss.

03

Read proposals side by side

Compare insurer, premium and fees, limits, retentions, interruption waiting periods, response providers and exclusions. Avoid deciding from a headline limit or price alone.

04

Prepare a communications question

Who would help you establish facts, coordinate notifications and answer customers? Ask what requires insurer approval and which communications expenses have their own sublimit.
